15 Things I Miss About Being a Kid

LittleTheresaBigSunglasses - LuvBuv, Relating

I'm too cool for school.

  1. Relishing your brand new school supplies on the first day of school.
  2. Recess. Grown-ups could use regularly scheduled breaks where your only goal is to run around and scream your head off.
  3. Trading your snack or sandwich with a friend.
  4. Receiving handwritten Valentine’s Day cards with cheesy sayings like, “You’re Fang-tastic!”
  5. Not being expected to cook dinner or wash dishes.
  6. Waking up early and watching good cartoons on Saturday mornings.
  7. The anticipation of Christmas. The gifts. The food. Staying up all night. Things aren’t quite the same anymore when you worry about your wallet. When I was a kid, my cousins and I would not spend any money on gifts for each other; instead we would find random objects in our rooms that we no longer wanted, but we thought someone else would like. I think it’s time to bring back this tradition.
  8. Going trick-or-treating and counting every single piece of candy you got.
  9. Splashing in rain puddles without worrying about getting dirty.
  10. Having a juicy or funny note passed to you in class.
  11. Looking forward to going to school because you are excited to see that cute boy or girl you are crushing on.
  12. Making forts out of cardboard boxes and blankets.
  13. Being allowed to make mistakes because you are a kid. Now when grown-ups slip-up, people think you are either incompetent, a screw-up, or a jerk.
  14. Walking to the convenience store with change in your pockets to buy candy.
  15. Having a bedtime story read to you and then getting tucked into bed. My dad used to read me Richard Scarry stories and change his voice for each character. He mentioned this during his speech on my wedding day and it made me cry my eyes out.
