20 Simple Pleasures in Life to Relish

We are often in such a rush that we take for granted all the little things that life offers. It’s the little things that make life great. Here is a list of a few simple pleasures in life to not just appreciate, but to relish.

The Power of Sound and its Affects on our Health

The first thing you might have heard when you woke up this morning is the sound of your alarm clock buzzing in your ear. Everyday our lives revolve around sounds yet most of us pay little attention to them. Sound is such a powerful yet underrated sense – most things in our world rely much

Taking a Vacation without Baby

Earlier this week I waved bye-bye to my 11 month old daughter as she sat in Grammy’s car and for the first time, she waved back. This little moment made me want to cry as I stared into her big, confused eyes. But I did not cry as the jeep pulled away and Ayla peered out from behind the tinted window. “Get a grip,” I told myself. “It’s only for a week.”

My husband and I decided to go to San Francisco to celebrate our anniversary. It’s the first time we’ve ever left Ayla for more than a few hours. At first we thought we would take her with us, but after a few late nights one week, and a few sleepless nights as a result of a change in her schedule, we thought it would be best for all of us to leave Ayla with my mother-in-law.

The Nasty Task of Breaking up with a Nice Person

Sometimes you date someone so wrong for you that everyone and their hairdresser tells you to break up with him. But then there are times when you date a really nice person who gets along with your friends and family, but something about the relationship just isn’t jiving with you.

Check out my thoughts on ending

Hawaii’s Love Affair with Spam

When most people think of Hawaii, they think of beautiful beaches, surfing, and luaus. Spam, the famous mystery meat in a can is not what one expects to find on menus everywhere including McDonald’s, but that is exactly what I discovered when I visited Oahu on my honeymoon.

My first encounter with Hawaii’s love affair with Spam is when I walked into a 7-11 and found Spam Musubi, a grilled slab of the meat on a bed of rice wrapped together with nori (seaweed). At only two dollars a pop, they came individually wrapped and made a convenient and tasty snack.

The Mistake of Settling in a Relationship

We’ve always been told to do our best whether it means training everyday for that marathon, putting in overtime at work to get that promotion, or just making time for the important people in our lives. Why then, do so many of us make the mistake of settling for “okay” in a romantic relationship, one

Why Girls Love Twilight’s Edward Cullen

Edward Cullen, the charming, vegetarian vampire from Stephanie Meyers’ Twilight series has captured the hearts of young and mature women alike. Long before Twilight was made into movies and Robert Pattinson came along to bring the character to life (and no doubt attract more fanfare), Edward has set hearts aflutter. What exactly is so tantalizing about Edward Cullen?

Gender Stereotypes: Are We Still Defined by Blue and Pink?

I often feel like I’m drowning in a sea of pink as I sort through my baby daughter’s closet. When we go shopping, I see pink, pink, and more pink. I was hoping that in the twenty-first century, girls would have more options to choose from other than blush.

Have you ever wondered if we are

Living with a Prankster

The other day as I held a ball-point pen, an electric pulse zapped my thumb as I pressed the top clicker. I yelped in surprise and immediately knew I had been duped. No, I was not at a gag store. I was just having a relaxing evening at home with my husband the prankster.

I should have known he was up to no good the way he casually asked me to check out the “cool” ink colour of the prank pen. As is the custom in our household, if he “gets” me, I have the right to “get” him back. So I subjected him to the same electric zap from the pen, although this time it was lacking the element of surprise which for him is actually worse. Big baby.
